Public spirit and Christian charity: women and associations in Edinburgh

Jane Rendall

Jane Rendall provides a second strand to the Scottish Enlightenment element of this session's winter programme. During her distinguished period as a professor in the Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies at York University, and since, she has been interested in women's activities and writing, particularly in Scotland. From her publication of The Origins the Scottish Enlightenment (1978) to recent works on women's politics, writing and perceptions of war and revolution, Jane Rendall has brought forward new perspectives on the formative period about which she will talk to the OEC.
